Two Thousand Twelve

A few 2012 highlights:

Winter | I kicked off the new year with some resolutions {most of which I accomplished -- yay!} a few DIY's, and some thrifting finds from my trip home. I shared some fun family photos and a little tidbit of news about our exciting summer ahead! We had weekends filled with mini-dates and lots of good food {1, 2, 3}

Spring | We left for New York and pretty much fell in love with it right away. We saw a concert in Carnegie Hall, visited Central Park and the Highline, spotted Taylor Tomasi Hill on the street, enjoyed Fleet Week and Brooklyn, and soaked up NYC as much as we could. I did my first ever outfit post. We took advantage of being on the east coast and took a quick trip back home.

Summer | Matt's job brought us to Seattle for a few weeks {my first time there!} We loved Bainbridge Island, kayaking on the Fourth of July, and had a date on top of the famous space needle. I shared some of my recent eBay finds and also a fun DIY. I did a second edition of Insta-Outfits. We took total advantage of Washington's awesome scenery and things to do outdoors {1 + 2}

Fall | We celebrated our two year anniversary, I shared a few pictures from around our house, as well as another outfit post. I took a short and sweet trip home to visit with family and enlisted some help with my Craigslist chairs {more on that in 2013!}. We had a wonderful visit to central CA for some good friend's wedding and celebrated Thanksgiving and Christmas with family and friends.

Thank you so much for following along during 2012! Here's to a very exciting 2013.

Wrap Skirts

I love that these wrap skirts have been popping up around the street style scene lately. I'd wear it during the winter with a Vince sweater, Commando tights, and a pair of Rag & Bone booties.

My wrap skirt picks:

Navy Velvet

Does anyone have any experience with velvet sofas? I'm looking for something dark (LOVE navy!) and that won't show every single fuzz and crumb. I think the look of a navy velvet sofa is so elegant but practical is important, too!

Around Here

I promised myself I wouldn't be behind on Christmas gifts, wrapping, and cards this year so any down time I have has been dedicated to holiday prep. We had a holiday party at our place this weekend and I love our leftover flowers (in a Nate Berkus vase). Every year we send out picture cards (from Minted) to close friends and family but these MoMA cards were too pretty to pass up!

And on two random notes: I'm loving these booties (also here) that I've been wearing with everything and these Kelly Wearstler pillows are my new fave. KW can do no wrong.

Hope you had a wonderful weekend!

Living Room by Kelsey Design

Today I have Kelsey here filling in for me. Kelsey is an awesome interior designer and has a beautiful blog. Be sure to visit her here

Thanks for having me here today! My name is Kelsey and I blog over at Kelsey Design, a style blog both for you and your home. Natalie asked me to share one of my storyboard designs with you.We are moving across the country in less than a month and on my moving checklist was a living room design. {Priorities, right?} The last time we moved it took me forever to unpack and make the house presentable. I had too much that didn't go together and was completely overwhelmed. This time I am determined not to let that happen and make our new place feel like home as soon as possible. Plus, it is fun to switch furniture up. It also helps that we are only taking our sofa and bed- this leaves quite a bit of room for change.

I am going for a more modern look, but still my go-to black and white (and gray) theme. I've had my eye on that buffet for a while now and our new living room will fit it perfectly. It'll be opposite the sofa and the abstract painting. I bit the bullet and bought  black curtains!! I never thought I'd have black curtains, but I guess moving across the country puts curtain colors in perspective- it doesn't really matter, so just go with what you like. It's easy to tell clients that and now I'm liv-in' what I'm preach-in'. And if I have black curtians, I have to have velvet leopard throw pillows because leopard velvet and black silk are a match made in heaven. Period. I'm also incorporating other favorites- greek key, Jonathan Adler lamp, lucite, and some quirk- the hoofed end table. I can't wait to see it all come to life!

I love meeting and hearing from new readers so please stop by and say hi! And, Merry Christmas to you all.
