Chair Help!

Some of you know that I bought this pair of chairs a few weeks ago on Craigslist. Here's the photo that was posted on CL -- you can't tell in this picture but the fabric is a 60's green and it's not in that great of shape. Getting them re-upholstered is on my to-do list. Matt thinks they look like old lady chairs, and even though I love the shape and design of them I have to agree that they'd look a little more modern with some updates. A few weeks ago I tried to stain them a lot darker and it looked FAB -- but the wood wouldn't take the stain so I had to strip it. Nightmare central.

So I've been throwing around the idea of painting them a glossy black. Some people I've mentioned it to are horrified because the wood really is beautiful -- it's just a little on the lighter side which makes it look more old-fashioned. 

I'd love to hear your thoughts -- am I crazy for wanting to paint over the wood? I'm nervous that I'll regret it. I'm thinking of upholstering with a cream velvet and putting pillows in this fabric on them.

+ {Above} I finally got my favorite Etsy print hung. Sort of obsessed with it.

+ Has anyone checked out the Nate Berkus for Target collab yet? This is the first time I've bought anything from a Target/designer collaboration -- I snagged this pillow and this vase. So excited about both.

+ Speaking of home decor, I'm loving Zara's home line. I have my eye on this, this and this. Have your purchased anything from them yet? I'm interested in hearing about the quality of everything.

Fabric Love

Lately I've been loving this Kelly Wearstler fabric -- as seen in Nicole's, Alex's and Hallie's gorgeous homes. I've been looking for a way to incorporate it into our place and I finally ordered a pair of custom pillows. I can't wait for them to arrive -- I think they'll look perfect on our Craigslist chairs!

Cobalt for Fall

Happy weekend! It is just me or did this week fly by? I sort of want everything to slow down so we can relish fall a little bit more. AND I want to try a version of this outfit before fall's over-- the shades of blue and cobalt look so pretty layered.

Home Through the iPhone

 

A few pictures from my visit back home this past week. It was so wonderful seeing my family {including my little cutie-pie niece June}. We had brunch downtown, decorated pumpkins, went to a concert -- all in all it was a wonderful little vacation!

+ Super excited that fall is here. Can't wait till it's cool enough for my new fall boots to debut.

+ Looking forward to a little weekend getaway this coming weekend, followed by a visit to my family in Annapolis next week! I can't wait to see this little nugget {who is now one!}.

Balayage

I must have been living under a rock because I just recently learned about balayage effect -- a coloring technique that is easier and more natural than normal highlights (it's done freehand instead of with foils). It's how you get the ombre effect on hair, but it can be done in highlight form, too. I love, love the look! A few weeks ago I decided to give it a try (I started with a half head instead of a full head). The results are really natural, sun-kissed look that gave me just the right amount of dimension and color. I may go bolder and do a full head next time, but one of the amazing things about balayage is that you don't have to get it re-done very often (or ever, if you don't want to). It grows out really naturally since it's less extreme than normal highlights. It really is the best of everything! I'm curious, have you ever had balayage done to your hair?
